Woman & Child Services cares for women at every stage of life. Whether she's expecting a baby or experiencing symptoms of menopause, we provide the education, support and expert medical care she and her family need. Comprehensive healthcare services include labor, delivery and postpartum care, gynecologic care, and pediatric care for newborns and older children.

Labor & Delivery
Expectant mothers are offered the comfort of labor/delivery/recovery (LDR) rooms that carry them through the entire birth process. Each room is connected to a central fetal monitoring system so nurses can easily monitor each mother and baby at all times. The unit also has operating suites for cesarean deliveries and an antepartal labor lounge.

Registration & Tours
Delivery pre-registration forms should be submitted by mothers-to-be who wish to deliver at EJGH. Click here to submit an online form or visit the front desk on the fourth floor of the Domino Pavilion for a paper form. Expectant mothers are also invited to take a tour of the facilities. Call (504) 454-5555 to schedule a tour.

Post-Partum/Gynecological Services
This unit cares for new mothers after delivery and for women undergoing gynecologic surgery or receiving gynecologic care.

Neonatal Services
Three levels of neonatal services are available to care for newborns.

Nursery
The nursery provides level I care for healthy newborns.

Special Care Nursery

This nursery provides level II care for newborns who are not in critical condition, but who require close observation and a higher level of care than most newborns.

NICU

The level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is equipped to care for premature babies and other infants requiring immediate and sophisticated medical care. These infants receive around-the-clock monitoring and observation by registered nurses and certified neonatal nurse practitioners. Because having an infant in the NICU is stressful for families, social workers and grief counselors work closely with the unit's staff.

Breastfeeding Center
Staffed by certified lactation consultants who are also registered nurses, the Breastfeeding Center provides education and support for mothers who choose to breastfeed their infants. Lactation consultants are available to new mothers during their hospital stay and for one-on-one outpatient consultations for a fee. The center also sells breastfeeding pumps and accessories. Click here for more information on the Breastfeeding Center.

GIFT Certification
GIFT stands for GUIDED INFANT FEEDING TECHNIQUES and East Jefferson is only one of two hospitals in Louisiana to have this certification. Being GIFT certified means that we have successfully taken the ten steps as outlined by the Louisiana Maternal and Child Health Coalition to promote a healthy, breastfed baby.

Woman & Child Clinic
The Woman & Child Clinic provides expert care for women experiencing complicated pregnancy or facing a diagnosis of gynecologic cancer. Perinatologists and gynecologic oncologists are among the specialist physicians who see patients at the clinic. The clinic also provides specialized care for children, including audiology and pediatric cardiology.
