inspiregrant2The awards were announced on Wednesday, June 3rd. These awards will fund patient-centered programs to 21 different departments throughout the hospital. INSPIRE is a competitive grants program that focuses on patient-centered care initiatives at EJGH and is funded through the proceeds of The Foundation’s signature fundraising events: The Annual Golf Classic & Pre-Party held in the spring and Up on the Roof, a popular beer tasting event held in the fall.

Among the departments receiving funds was the Women and Child Department. The grant they received will allow them to install a video monitoring system on the cribs of babies in the NICU, allowing new moms and dads to log-in from a mobile device or home computer to view, and even speak to, their baby even when they are not at the hospital. This program will provide comfort for parents who are faced with much heartache and anxiety when they have to leave their babies in the NICU in order to return to work, care for an older child, or even just head home for a good night’s sleep.

East Jefferson General Hospital Foundation recently awarded the  2015 Donna Swartzfager Memorial Awards to eight deserving team members. The recipients were selected through a highly competitive selection process.

Donna Swartzfager served the community as the Director of Medical Staff Services when she suddenly passed away from heart disease in 2010. Following her death, her devoted husband (Ken), siblings (Carol and Ronnie), children (Kelly and Kyle), and leaders of the medical staff (Raymond DeCorte, MD and the now-deceased Stan Bleich, MD), came together to create an endowed fund in her name.

The fund honors Donna’s legacy of her commitment to EJGH by supporting professional and continuing higher education, training, and certification for EJGH team members and staff of active medical staff members.
