About MD Anderson

The Nation’s Leader in Cancer Care

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is located in Houston, Texas, on the sprawling campus of the Texas Medical Center. MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the world's most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer care, research, education and prevention. Founded in 1941, they have treated over 700,000 patients and rank first in the number of research grants awarded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), boasting 10 programs recognized by the NCI as Specialized Programs of Research Excellence.

The MD Anderson Cancer Network program utilizes evidence-based guidelines developed at MD Anderson. It offers affiliated community hospitals and credentialed physicians access to a process that shares MD Anderson clinical intellectual property for the purpose of examining and improving the quality of cancer care provided by them to their patients.

Affiliated Host hospitals are JCAHO and ACOS accredited and have an organized cancer program including medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology as well as appropriate diagnostic specialty capabilities. The process of adopting programmatic best practices and quality management includes in-depth due diligence of a host's cancer capability and practices, credentialing of qualified oncology physicians to participate in MD Anderson Cancer Network, and agreements by physicians and hospitals to both utilize the MD Anderson clinical guidelines for cancer care and also participate in a robust data-driven quality management process.

MD Anderson's mission is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public. The Cancer Network program supports this mission by offering an evidence-based program coordinating cancer prevention, education, and treatment to community affiliates and credentialed physicians.

Patients in the program benefit from the expertise of MD Anderson whether cancer care is provided at home or in Houston. Credentialed providers from the local community participate in MD Anderson Cancer Network to offer local patients cancer care using MD Anderson practice guidelines. For patients who need to travel to MD Anderson in Houston for care, Cancer Network provides unique support services to ease that transition.
