A court-based program designed to improve your tennis game through sport-specific analysis and conditioning. Let the professionals at The Fitness Principle with Mackie Shilstone at East Jefferson General Hospital develop a complete program specific to the game of tennis to help you improve your overall performance.

The Game of Tennis...

Tennis is one of the most popular sports in America. It can be enjoyed by everyone: man, woman or child - whether novice or professional.

As in every sport, you want to perform your best and avoid needless injury. The tennis ground, strokes and serve are complex movements. Your body must be prepared to produce and withstand the forces required to play this guide reaction game.

TPEP's purpose is to provide you with a tennis-specific conditioning plan which will improve forehand, backhand and most importantly, the serve. Areas of emphasis will be placed on pelvic stabilization to develop strong core, scapula stabilization and rotator cuff strengthening to assist in injury reduction, functional leg strength to reduce incidence of knee injury along with tennis agility and footwork to enhance your ability to react to the ball.

T-PEP Training Systems:

  • Tennis Specific Physical Therapy Evaluation – Our sports Physical Therapist, who has evaluated world-class tennis players, will evaluate muscle balance relative to your tennis game and any previous injury history. Results will be used in customization of your tennis specific conditioning program. This invaluable assessment is included with both programs.
  • The Mackie Shilstone Tennis Conditioning Program – This custom designed program provides 4 personalized sessions with Mackie Shilstone. Mackie will teach you the specific exercises you require to achieve the best results within the areas of emphasis. Four sessions will be conducted at The Fitness Principle and the remaining sessions on the tennis court. This program is currently being used by world-class tennis players as part of their overall performance enhancement strategy.
  • Tennis Conditioning Program – This custom designed program provides 16 personalized sessions with our staff. A tennis exercise specialist will teach you the specific exercises you require to achieve the best results within the areas of emphasis. Four sessions will be conducted at The Fitness Principle and the remaining sessions on the tennis court. This program is currently being used by world-class tennis players as part of their overall performance enhancement strategy.

Program options include consultation with a licensed nutritionist, metabolic study to measure your metabolic rate, body composition analysis to determine appropriate lean to fat ratio and a customized, take-home manual documenting exercises and protocols with pictures. Options are available on an "a la carte" basis.

This program utilizes two (2) tubing devices which are portable and can be used at home or on the road. The tubes can be used on or off the tennis court in a format that you can carry and take anywhere.

I told everyone about your program specific for tennis players at East Jefferson and how much of an impact you made upon Taylor when you met with him at Elmwood many years ago. The change in diet and fitness principles he gained from you has resulted in him being an All-American at UNC and hopefully on tour after he graduates.
